Parking request.
March 23rd, 2014 by Dr WheelerA new sign has appeared in the car park – respectfully asking if patients could please leave the top car parking space for the doctor to park in.
I do this reluctantly. I have, for a few years now, supported a policy in the practice of staff parking lower down in the car park if possible to allow patients the opportunity to get as close to the entrance as possible. There is another agenda however in that I am looking at ways to reduce the carbon footprint of myself and the practice – this has lead to an adjustment being necessary.
I have bought an electric vehicle – and the plan is for us to have charging points at the top of the car park for (hopefully) 2 cars at a time. As well as myself (and possibly other staff in the future) being able to charge at work, the idea is that as electric vehicle uptake improves in the future patients will be able to charge their cars at the practice when they visit.
This is still a work in progress – steps to get the commercial charging stations installed are being taken now – though it may take a few months till public use is possible. Hopefully the installation of the first public car charging point in North Uist will then help kick start a process which I hope will lead to a gradual change over in the future away from our reliance on the most expensive diesel and petrol in the country.
In the meantime – if you could keep that car spot free (unless of course there are no other spaces available) that would be very much appreciated.
